General: The Ethiopian Journal of Education and Sciences publishes Original (full length), Short Communication and Review articles. Authors should strictly adhere to the format provided below when organizing their manuscript for submission. Good language use, referencing styles (both in-text citation and reference listing), proper use of punctuations and all other editorial issues should be strictly respected.
Short communication is a finding that is unusual and novel but short and a small part of a main research or project, or a preliminary survey findings conducted before actual research is being carried out.
Please use Times New Roman font throughout; use normal font throughout except for the scientific names where Italic font should be used
Use either American or British English but be consistent throughout; do not mix up the two styles.
Format: Manuscripts for Original (full length) Articles and Short Communications should consist of the following sections in that order: Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Result, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment, References. Do not number the headings; use bold fonts for the headings instead. The entire Manuscript should be submitted as a SINGLE word file; do not submit the manuscript parts in multiple files.
Title page: Manuscript title followed by author(s) list, institutional affiliations and address, and authors email addresses; indicate the corresponding author using asterisk (*); do not include the authors academic level or qualification in the manuscript.
Abstract: Should be presented in a separate page and should not exceed 250 words; at the end of Abstract include 5-6 keywords arranged in alphabetic order
Introduction: a concise background and literature review of the study that clealry justifies the problem of the study and defines objectives the research.
Materials and Methods: includes study site, sampling procedures, data collection and/or laboratory or filed procedures, data analysis, ethical issues, etc..
Results: should present the major findings of the study, text, tables and figures of only important observations; not more than seven tables and figures.
Discussion: critical analysis of the findings by relating it to other relevant studies and the implications. Only under special condition Discussion maybe combined with Results (if the nature of the manuscript requres so).
Conclusion: summarizes important points based on the major findings, followed by recommendation (if any).
Acknowledgment: Should be presented in a separate page and must be brief and short.
References: Referred or quoted materials must be acknowledged, plagiarism is illegal and unethical. Direct quotation should be exact and as short as possible. The style of the referencing must be alphabetical order (i.e. APA style). For journal articles: Authors last names followed by year of publication, title, journal name, volume number, issue (if any) and page (for journal articles). For Standard books: Authors last names followed by year of publication, title of the book, publisher, edition number (if any), place published (city or country). For Book chapters: Authors last names followed by year of publication, title of the chapter, In: editors last names (eds.), title of the book (page range of the chpater in the book), publisher, edition number (if any), place published (city or country). Tables and Figures should be placed in their appropriate places with appropriate heading and legend arranged according to their sequential appearance indicated by Arabic numerals (such as 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) NOT by Roman numerlas (I, II, III, IV, etc.).
Manuscripts for Review Articles should follow the format: Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Body (i.e.breakdown of the review into major topics and subtopics), Conclusion, Acknowledgment, References. Please note that you do not write the term "Body" as a heading. Rather it is a part where you bring the various topics and subtopics of your review into play.
