A Psychoanalytic Exploration into the Oromoo Novel: Suuraa Abdii

Abstract

This research contributes to the categorization of Afaan Oromoo literature by analyzing the selected novel Suuraa Abdii through the lens of Freudian Psychoanalysis. The primary objective of the study was to identify and explore the key concepts of Freudian Psychoanalysis present in the novel. Important excerpts were selected using a Close Reading technique and subsequently transcribed into English via the Communicative Approach. Textual evidence was gathered through critical reading informed by psychoanalytic criticism. The study employed Classical Psychoanalytic Literary Theory frameworks for data identification and coding, utilizing a qualitative data analysis method. All concepts discussed and conclusions drawn were supported by textual evidence from the novel, enhancing the reliability of the research findings. The study reveals that Suuraa Abdii is rich in psychoanalytic themes, including unconsciousness and repression, the Id-Ego-Superego model, symbolism, and sublimation.
